WWE is approaching SummerSlam season, so it is about time that Roman Reigns begins making moves to come back to weekly programming. Despite being one of WWE’s most successful, decorated, and biggest names, there are still plenty of things that Reigns still needs to do. With Reigns being very much a part-timer, having been so for the last three years, time is running out on possible feuds, matches, and more, and it is high time that WWE finally pulls the trigger on a long-term, multi-match feud, and it just so happens to be with someone he has such a deep, entrenched history with.
Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins Have Never Had A Multi-Match Feud
Reigns & Rollins Have Had Various Chapters In WWE
- These two names have feuded off-and-on for a decade
- Reigns and Rollins have never had a consistent series of matches
- Their singles matches on PLEs have been few and far between
Ever since debuting on the main roster, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns have had their legacies intertwined. They have shared the ring for monumental moments, battled in big time matches, won WWE’s biggest prizes, and teamed together on countless occasions. Given their history, you’d assume they’d have had a boat load of singles matches on WWE PLEs – at SummerSlam, WrestleMania, and more. However, this is somehow not the case. Despite having an on-and-off feud for so many years, Reigns and Rollins have only ever had two PLE singles matches – their third doesn’t count, as Rollins won by “forfeit” as Reigns was unable to compete. These matches came six years apart, not taking place within the same storyline or chapter.

The Forgotten John Cena Vs. CM Punk Classic That No One Talks About
John Cena and CM Punk have a long rivalry, but you probably don’t even remember one of their best matches.
Reigns and Rollins did battle at Money in the Bank 2016 in a main event that had a big fight feel, which was won by Rollins clean, beating Reigns to become the brand new WWE Champion. This was the infamous match in which fellow former Shield member Dean Ambrose cashed in his Money in the Bank contract, with all three men holding the big prize in one night. With Ambrose’s presence in the storyline, Reigns and Rollins didn’t end up having a singles feud at the time. Fast-forward to 2022, and Rollins challenged Reigns for the Universal Title. Reigns got himself disqualified to survive with his championship, but WWE didn’t follow suit on giving them a rematch or continuing the story, leaving things unresolved.

The Legacy Of Roman Reigns Vs. Seth Rollins Deserves More
WWE Must Give These Two A Series Of Matches
- 2025 needs to be the year WWE pulls the trigger on the former SHIELD stars
- Their feud has been heating up over the last two years.
- It feels like the perfect time for WWE to push forward and give them this feud
With WrestleVotes reporting that a Roman Reigns return is impending ahead of WWE approaching SummerSlam, the cogs will begin turning on creative plans for Reigns. When it comes to how WWE should approach his comeback, they should finally pull the trigger on a proper feud with Seth Rollins – one which lasts for several months and features perhaps a trilogy of matches, all culminating in one big blow-off. Their legacy with one another is desperately missing something like this. All major WWE rivalries over the years have featured many big-time matches on PPV/PLE – Steve Austin vs. The Rock, Randy Orton vs. John Cena, Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar, and more. Rollins and Reigns deserve to have the same booking, at least one time in their careers.

It’s Now Or Never For This WWE Dream Match
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin might have one more WWE match left in him. If so, there is only one possible opponent.
Reigns is, of course, a part-timer, but three matches with Rollins doesn’t feel like too much of a stretch. With Rollins and his new faction taking out Reigns earlier this year, it makes sense for him to come back with revenge on his mind. The first ever two-night SummerSlam would be the perfect opportunity for their first match, doing battle on a major show. A Rollins victory to kick things off would lead perfectly into another big event – perhaps Clash in Paris or Crown Jewel in Australia, in which Reigns gets a win back. Finally, a match at an event like Survivor Series, or even WrestleMania next year, perhaps inside Hell in a Cell, would be a great way to cap things off on a trilogy for the pair, and finally give them the series they deserve.
WWE May Go In A Different Direction With This Feud
There Are Several Possibilities For Roman Reigns’ Summer
- CM Punk may get involved again
- Reigns may enlist help to take on Rollins’ faction
- A series of singles matches may not happen
On paper, booking a Reigns vs. Rollins series seems like a logical step and an easy option, but there are many variables at play that could get in the way of WWE heading in this direction. For instance, WWE might not be able to resist the prospect of having Roman Reigns and CM Punk team up to take on Rollins and his faction, perhaps then even transitioning into a feud between Reigns and Punk, lessening the chance of multiple singles matches between Reigns and Rollins.

How WWE Can Save Its Summer Without Liv Morgan
WWE had big plans for Liv Morgan, but what will they do now that she’s out of action for months?
Additionally, the current WarGames concept of Survivor Series may get in the way too, as Rollins and his goons could very likely be the heel group in the men’s WarGames match later this year, meaning that Reigns will have to get some allies together to battle in multi-man action. There is certainly a chance for at least one singles bout between Reigns and Rollins, but this doesn’t feel like enough by any means. Given WWE’s booking of Reigns in recent times, expect to see him team up with allies to take on Rollins, rather than a fully-fledged feud between the two.
