Lex Luger Says Women’s Matches Are A Lot Of Times Better Than The Guys

During an interview with Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Luger was asked about modern pro wrestling and who has recently caught his eye. Luger brought up Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and women’s wrestling. Luger didn’t bring up a name or a certain promotion, just women’s wrestling in general. He said:

“Man, there’s so many good ones, obviously. Cody (Rhodes). I love him. My association with his father, And that’s the first thing that pops into my mind. There’s so many great talents. What blows my mind now are the women. I mean, what they do in the ring now, a lot of times their matches are way better than the guys. I don’t know if it’s their gymnastics background or their cheerleading, but man, they do unbelievable stuff. I love watching a lot of their matches now.” (H/T: Fightful)

Luger isn’t the only WWE Hall of Famer who has praised modern women wrestlers. Back in February, Kurt Angle spoke about how one-half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles, Charlotte Flair, is the top three wrestlers in the world — regardless of gender. While in the past, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus, who has been in the ring with the new generation, said the “current crop is incredible.” She was proud of how far women’s wrestling in WWE has come since her start in the industry.

Who Are The Top Female Wrestlers In WWE And AEW?

When thinking about the top female wrestlers in two of the main current promotions, WWE and AEW, everyone has an opinion. The easiest way to answer that question is to go to Pro Wrestling Illustrated. PWI does a yearly list that looks at the top 250 female wrestlers. The 2025 Top 250 Wrestlers list has yet to be released, but last year’s list was topped by AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm.

While WWE Superstar Jordynne Grace ranked second, Rhea Ripley ranked third. Ripley topped the rankings in 2023. Ranked in fifth place was Stephanie Vaquer, and two spots after her at seventh was Bayley. Ahead of Bayley was former WWE Superstar Sarray. It’s worth mentioning that Charlotte was not ranked on the list due to her being out of action because of a serious knee injury.

Before she was WWE NXT star Blake Monroe, the then-AEW star Mariah May ranked ninth place, and ahead of her at eighth was AEW star Willow Nightingale. Tenth place was ROH Women’s Champion Athena. So who is going to take the top place this year? Will Toni Storm take the lead again? Maybe WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton moves up on the list in 2025.
