World Cup qualifying results: Portugal win, Ireland drama

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal were among 12 teams in 2026 Fifa World Cup European qualifying action on Saturday.

The Selecao travelled to Armenia, where they had drawn their previous two visits before a Ronaldo hat-trick sealed a 3-2 win in 2015.

Elsewhere, Group K rivals England and Serbia were in action, Ireland hosted Hungary, Austria were at home to Cyprus and Bosnia and Herzegovina visited San Marino.

Armenia vs Portugal: Ronaldo, Joao Felix score twice

Ronaldo has 140 international goals and 942 in his career after scoring from close range in the first half and adding a spectacular second from distance a minute after half-time in Portugal’s 5-0 win.

The 40-year-old’s new Al-Nassr teammate, Joao Felix, headed in the 10th-minute opener from a cross by Al-Hilal wideman Joao Cancelo, who made the scoreline 3-0 in the 32nd minute, hammering in a first-time left-footed shot from inside the box.

Joao Felix completed the scoring with a scrappy finish 29 minutes from time. Armenia, who made a miserable start under new manager Yeghishe Melikyan, are at home to Ireland on Tuesday (17:00 BST / 12:00 ET / 09:00 PT), while Portugal are away to Hungary later that evening.

Ireland vs Hungary: Idah goal rescues hosts

Barnabas Varga struck from a tight angle and Roland Sallai headed in Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross to put Hungary 2-0 ahead after 15 minutes in Dublin, but the game changed when Sallai was contentiously dismissed for a challenge on Dara O’Shea shortly after Evan Ferguson’s close-range 49th-minute reply.

Ireland’s numerical advantage allowed them to dominate and their pressure told when substitute Adam Idah headed a 93rd-minute equaliser in the 2-2 draw, meeting Ryan Manning’s cross.

Latvia vs Serbia: Vlahovic goal decisive

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic rifled in the only goal in the 12th minute as Serbia won in Riga to stay in touch with section leaders England.

Serbia are five points behind England with a game in hand and host Thomas Tuchel’s team on Tuesday.
