Roman Reigns has only appeared sporadically for WWE this year, but fans are already growing tired of Triple H’s method of writing him off television. The Original Tribal Chief has worked a limited schedule for several years, but 2025 has seen him take things to an even more restricted level, having only competed in five matches so far.
While he’s busy growing his name in Hollywood and taking on various other projects, the WWE Universe still loves seeing Reigns make television appearances. There’s no doubt WWE is using him as much as possible, and fans have accepted that he will come and go from now on. However, WWE needs to change its approach to how the former Bloodline leader is written off, or it will quickly become predictable and tired.
WWE Is Writing Roman Reigns Off Television In Repetitive Ways
- Breakker and Reed have destroyed Reigns both times he’s been written off this year.
- The Vision members attacked him at Clash in Paris.
- Fans are becoming frustrated with Reigns’ booking.
Reigns’ fifth match of the year occurred at WWE’s Clash in Paris as he competed against Bronson Reed in singles action, which was very entertaining. The two men had a great, hard-hitting match that showcased the skills of both men, and after the bell, it was time to write Reigns off television. This was done because he will be filming his role in the upcoming Street Fighter live-action movie, which is perfectly fine, as that is how his career is going now.
The moment was completed by having Reed and Bron Breakker beat him up, with Spears and Tsunamis thrown in his direction as Reigns was stretchered to the back. That was entertaining and helped make the two Vision members look impressive. However, it felt a little bit too familiar. That is because it is the same way he was written off television earlier this year during the post-WrestleMania 41 episode of Raw, which is becoming a problem.
Doing it the first time made sense, but the fact that it has already been repeated proves that the storyline hasn’t been advanced. Not only that, but WWE isn’t getting anything fresh out of Reigns, which is the opposite of what should be happening if he’s only working limited dates.
WWE Must Become More Creative With Roman Reigns’ Storytelling
- Reigns intends to be around in WWE for a long time, despite his Hollywood success.
- WWE fans want to see different storylines for the Original Tribal Chief.
- The company doesn’t want to risk fans turning on Reigns again.
Reigns wants to be committed to being a WWE Superstar, regardless of where his career takes him outside of that world. That’s commendable and showcases his love for the business. As he explained on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story podcast, he doesn’t want to choose between what he does, which means that WWE is going to have to get used to the idea of him leaving regularly.
“I wanted to be the first guy who could do both, as opposed to, and I know John did, and he did it his way, but to really be able to do both, and, like damn near lead a movie, and then also still, you know, main event, a pay-per-view, and to have that type of responsibility.”
However, for that plan to work, Reigns will likely have to be around a little more on WWE television. While fans will accept talent coming in and out as John Cena has this year, even the 17-time World Champion has committed lots of time to the product. He also hasn’t been written off with a beatdown every time he’s disappeared for a while, and that will have to be the approach for the Original Tribal Chief as well.
There are countless ways that the company can write Reigns off television; it doesn’t always need to be wrestlers beating him up to the point where he can’t fight back, especially when it’s the same people involved. On top of that, neither of the beatdowns felt truly violent enough for him to be off television for a significant amount of time, and that makes it even harder for the WWE Universe to take it seriously, as it just feels like lazy booking.
Roman Reigns Offers WWE Something Few Others Do
- Reigns has been signed to WWE since 2010.
- He is a six-time World Champion.
- Reigns has become one of the biggest names in WWE history.
Roman Reigns might not be around every week, but that’s because of how special he is as a talent. Only a select few people offer what he can, which is bringing a legitimate aura when he arrives. When Reigns is advertised, fans genuinely want to tune in and pay attention, and his segments or matches always command genuine interest because he’s got so much star power that fans want to know what he will do next.
WWE is lucky to have a wrestler like that on the roster, and the fact that he’s only working limited dates actually aids WWE in some ways because it ensures he always feels fresh whenever he’s used. However, if WWE writes him off television the same way each time he appears, fans will lose that excitement simply due to how repetitive it will feel, and that’s the opposite of what Triple H should want.
Reigns is a special talent who needs to be carefully booked moving forward, and given that he’s gone for months at a time, WWE has plenty of opportunities to think of some ideas. When he returns, it’s obvious that he will be feuding against Breakker and Reed again as he continues to work his way toward facing Seth Rollins. However, it will be crucial that WWE learns its lesson and puts together a more interesting and unique way to write Roman Reigns off television the next time he disappears.
