Why Bayley Must Turn Heel

A heel or babyface turn can turn around the fortunes of a wrestler, and in the case of Bayley, this could certainly be true in the very near future. After an up and down year, several teases for something new, and interesting recent developments, Bayley could be on the verge of a heel turn. This is desperately needed for Bayley, despite the love that WWE fans have had for her as a babyface over the years. There are multiple reasons as to why a heel turn is the best route for Bayley, whether that be in terms of potential feuds, character work, or a lack of major heels in the women’s division.

Bayley Has Teased A Heel Turn

  • Bayley has been suffering setbacks in 2025.
  • She has shown shades of gray in a program with Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch.
  • Her promo on RAW opened up a lot of possibilities.

Bayley returned to WWE programming following an attack prior to WrestleMania 41 when she was ambushed by Becky Lynch and written off the show. She was hell-bent on revenge upon coming back, targeting Becky Lynch. This got in the way of Lyra Valkyria’s feud with Becky Lynch and subsequent Intercontinental Title pursuits, as they both had the same goal.

During this time, Bayley has shown a little more of an edge, and had some issues created with Valkyria despite them being former allies, giving her shades of gray in her approach. Bayley has run down Valkyria on the mic, shown signs of being dejected after big losses and missing out on marquee events, and even cost Valkyria the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam, albeit inadvertently.

Bayley’s recent promos have been shown something changing, and we believe it should be a heel turn. She was very stoic and somewhat eerie on her August 11 promo on RAW, which was delivered in a video package. There were signs of her losing her mind a little, becoming more unhinged in her character as the video ended with some screams and weird sounds.

Bayley Has Been Stale As A Character In WWE

  • Bayley’s babyface run went downhill quickly.
  • She has done little since losing the WWE Women’s Title.
  • Her character has lacked edge and personality.

One big reason why a heel turn would be great for Bayley at this point in time is due to her desperately needing something new. Bayley turned babyface at the start of 2024, winning the Royal Rumble, feuding with Damage CTRL, and beating Iyo Sky in an acclaimed WrestleMania 40 match. It felt as though Bayley was finally reaching the babyface potential she’d had earlier in her WWE career, but things then turned south. With a lack of solid feuds and her personality being ripped away, Bayley became quite a lifeless character on WWE programming, eventually losing the WWE Women’s Championship and not doing much of note ever since. This has continued into 2025 with a babyface Bayley offering very little.

With someone as talented as Bayley and with all her credentials, allowing her to remain stale is a big mistake on WWE’s part. Turning heel can turn this around immediately. She can dig her teeth into something new, have more of a defined gimmick, and find her feet in the women’s division once more.

Bayley’s Best Work Has Been As A Heel In WWE

  • On the main roster, a babyface Bayley has failed.
  • She has so much more personality as a heel.
  • Turning heel can push her higher up the card again.

Although fans have fond memories of Bayley’s NXT run as a babyface, it is safe to say that her best work in WWE to date has come as a bad guy. She turned heel in 2019 in what was a last-ditch effort to save her dwindling momentum – and it proved to be a treat. Bayley immediately showed way more charisma than she’d ever displayed before. Her mic work improved to no end, her in-ring work felt more focused and clean, and her overall presentation made her feel like a distinct main eventer. She held world titles and dominated divisions as a heel, and making this switch is once again how WWE saves things for Bayley.

She is someone whose natural role may very well be that of a villain, even though there will be many who find that fact hard to admit. On the RAW roster, the top heels on the brand are Naomi, Becky Lynch, and Liv Morgan, but with plenty more babyfaces around, Bayley fitting into the heel category is something needed for not just her, but for the division too.
