Tottenham make Morgan Rogers priority target after missing out on Eze

Tottenham have identified Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as their next attacking target after missing out on Eberechi Eze, according to reports.

Spurs have already made contact through intermediaries to explore the possibility of a move, though Villa are reluctant to sell the 22-year-old, who on Tuesday was named PFA Young Player of the Year.

Rogers is under contract at Villa Park until 2030, meaning any offer would need to be significant. Figures of £80m have been floated, but insiders believe the price may need to be even higher before Villa consider negotiations.

Financial pressures could yet influence their stance. Villa have been fined £9.5m by UEFA for breaching financial rules after their wage bill climbed above 90% of revenue, and they are restricted in registering new signings unless offset by sales. Even so, the club see Rogers as a key part of their future.

For Tottenham, the search for reinforcements is intensifying after the loss of James Maddison to injury and frustration in the market.

They missed out on both Eze and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, while a £67m bid for Manchester City winger Savinho has stalled.

The club remain active on several fronts, with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche a leading target. Spurs would ideally bring in two attackers, with Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Como’s Nico Paz also under consideration.

Pressure is mounting on the Spurs hierarchy to deliver after a bruising summer in the market, and rival clubs are fully aware of their need to do business before the deadline.
