India opener Shafali Verma was left out of India’s squad for the home Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, as a 15-member team was announced by the selectors on Tuesday.
Chief selector Neetu David said, “Shafali played the Australia A series. She’s in the system, not like she’s not. We’ve got our eyes on her. Hope she plays a lot more and garners experience; it’ll help serve India in the 50-overs format.”

The 21-year-old big-hitter had returned to the national setup after a seven-month gap when she was named in India’s squad for the England tour. On that trip, she scored 3, 47, 31 and 75 in the five-match T20I series.
The batter was also part of India A’s recent tour of Australia, where she returned disappointing scores of 3, 3 and 41.
The selectors also announced the team for the three-match ODI series against Australia at home ahead of the World Cup. Shafali did not make the cut there either.
