Scott Hall Once Killed A Man Before His Wrestling Days

Scott Hall is one of the biggest names in wrestling history. Although he was never a world champion in WWE or WCW, Hall became a household name for wrestling fans. Sadly, he is no longer with us, having passed away in 2022 at the age of 63. We will forever be able to watch his matches and promos, but his time in the ring nearly didn’t happen. It’s not a secret that Hall had his struggles, especially with alcohol, but the scariest thing that ever happened to him occurred before he started wrestling. One night, with his life threatened by an angry man, Scott Hall was forced to shoot and kill his attacker in self-defense.

Scott Hall Shot A Man To Death In Self Defense

It Happened When He Worked At A Bar Before His Wrestling Days

  • Scott Hall was dating a woman who was married to a man named Perry Turner.
  • Turner showed up at Thee Dollhouse looking to fight Hall.
  • When Turner pulled a gun, Hall took it from him and shot the man dead.

Scott Hall became a professional wrestler in 1984. However, a year before, he was a 24-year-old bartender working at an Orlando, Florida strip club called Thee Dollhouse. Hall, who was dating a married woman, found himself fighting for his life on the night of January 15 when the woman’s husband, Perry Turner, found out about the affair and showed up at the club to get his revenge. Out in the parking lot, he busted out all the windows on Scott’s car, and was now looking to take his rage out on Hall himself. When Hall confronted the guy for vandalizing his car, it led to a fight, and Hall, who was a bodybuilder, knocking the guy down with one punch. That’s when Turner went for his gun.

Seeing Perry Turner pull out a gun, Scott Hall reached for it and fought to gain control of the weapon. Once he did, Hall pulled the trigger, shooting Perry Turner in the head at point-blank rage. He died instantly. It was a sad twist of fate for Turner, who himself had shot and killed a man in self-defense just two months earlier. As for Hall, he was booked for second-degree murder, but without enough evidence to prosecute, charges were dropped.

In an interview, Hall said he could recall everything from that night, from what they were wearing, to what the air smelled like. He added:

“A guy pulled a gun on me and I took it away from him and shot him, point-blank with a .45 caliber. A guy’s dead and I’m the reason.”

Hall Thought He Wasn’t Going To Heaven Because He Killed A Man

  • Scott Hall became best friends with Kevin Nash due to working with him in WWE and WCW.
  • Dark Side of the Ring wanted to do an episode on Scott Hall.
  • Hall told Nash that his soul would be in limbo because he broke one of the Ten Commandments.

During Scott Hall’s wrestling career, he became best friends with Kevin Nash. They were part of the backstage group of friends in WWE called The Kliq, which also included Shawn Michaels and Triple H. When Hall left for WCW in 1996, Nash was right behind him. Paired up together as the tag team The Outsiders, Hall and Nash became linked together forever. In 2023, a year after Hall’s passing, Nash spoke about the dark night in 1983 on his Kliq This podcast.

Nash said that Dark Side of the Ring wanted to do an episode on Scott Hall with him, Sean Waltman, and Hall’s son, Cody, but he added:

“I just don’t think that the A&E perspective is ever going to cover the post-traumatic stress of Scott and the shooting that happened at The Dollhouse on Orange Avenue. There’s a reason why so many of our warriors come back from combat and they take their lives because they’ve taken a life.

“Scott’s thing was always – because he was so highly religious – Scott would say, ‘but you don’t understand, I’m not going to go to heaven. I’ve broken one of the Ten Commandments, thou shalt not kill. I’ve killed, I’m not going to heaven, my soul will be in limbo.’” (h/t Wrestling Observer)

  • His WCW debut is one of the most famous of all-time.

It’s absolutely heartbreaking to know that Scott Hall thought he couldn’t get into Heaven because he had killed someone, even if it was in self-defense. You have to wonder how much the mental anguish played a part in his later battles with alcohol and substance abuse.

Scott Hall’s demons followed him throughout the rest of his life (WCW once even turned it into a shameful storyline), but despite the pain he was going through on the inside, he still had a tremendous wrestling career. In the AWA, he formed a memorable tag team with Curt Hennig. In WWE, as Razor Ramon, he crafted a compelling character and became a four-time Intercontinental Champion. Then came WCW, with an unforgettable debut, a role as part of the biggest faction of all-time, the nWo, and seven tag team title wins. May Scott Hall continue to rest in peace.
