Manchester City centre-back Ruben Dias has committed his future to the club by signing a new two-year contract extension.
The 28-year-old’s previous deal was due to run until 2027, but the fresh agreement ties him to the Etihad Stadium until 2029, with an additional one-year option included.
Dias joined City from Benfica in 2020 for £65m and made an instant impact, winning the Premier League’s Player of the Year award in his debut campaign.
Since then, the Portugal international has become a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s defence, lifting four league titles as well as the Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup over the past five seasons.
“I am incredibly happy today,” Dias said. “I love Manchester – it is my home now – and I love the Manchester City fans.
“When I think about the trophies we have won and the way we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”
City’s director of football Hugo Viana praised the defender’s influence, describing him as “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch.”
With Dias’ future now secured, the club are expected to turn their focus to contract talks with John Stones and Bernardo Silva, who both enter the final year of their current deals.
Ilkay Gundogan and Ederson are also approaching the final 12 months of their contracts, while Rodri, Phil Foden, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake each have two years remaining.
In addition, 19-year-old full-back Rico Lewis is close to finalising a new five-year agreement with the Premier League champions.
