Patchy Mix ‘looking through’ Mario Bautista in debut at UFC 316

NEWARK, N.J. — Former Bellator champion Patchy Mix covers a number of topics at UFC 316 media day, including how it feels finally making his octagon debut, why he’s confident a win over Mario Bautista puts him in the thick of the bantamweight title picture, how his relationship with UFC strawweight contender Tatiana Suarez has helped his career, and more.

Mix (20-1) was widely regarded as the best bantamweight in the world not signed to the UFC prior to joining the promotion in May. He steps in as a replacement for longtime contender Marlon Vera, who withdrew from the Bautista bout for undisclosed reasons. Since his lone loss to Juan Archuleta in September 2020, Mix has rattled off seven straight wins, defeating the likes of Kyoji Horiguchi, Sergio Pettis, and Raufeon Stots.

Bautista (15-2) also enters Saturday’s bout on a seven-fight win streak. He won a split decision over Jose Aldo at UFC 307 this past October and hopes to steal Mix’s hype and establish himself as the top contender for the UFC bantamweight title.
