West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on Monday.
“After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to announce my retirement from international cricket,” a statement released by the 29-year-old on his Instagram account began.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) also thanked Pooran for his contributions to the national team in a statement. “Nicholas officially informed the leadership of his decision to retire from international cricket, bringing to a close a significant chapter in his career.”
Pooran ends his international career as the most capped West Indies player in T20 Internationals, with 106 matches, and also as the team’s leading T20I run-scorer with 2,275 runs. In ODIs, he featured in 61 matches and scored 1,983 runs. He never played in the longest format of the game.
His last ODI appearance came in 2023 against Sri Lanka in Harare, while his final T20I was against Bangladesh last year in Kingstown.
According to CWI, the batter had requested to be rested for both the ongoing England series and the upcoming Ireland series due to his commitments with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League.
In IPL 2025, Pooran enjoyed his best-ever season with the bat for LSG, scoring 524 runs in 14 matches at an average of over 40 and a strike rate close to 200.
