Newcastle fans hit out at Sven Botman after emotional message of support for Alexander Isak

Newcastle fans have lashed out at defender Sven Botman after he wished Alexander Isak well in an emotional post on Instagram.

Isak finally got his wish to quit Tyneside yesterday and secure a British record £125million move to Premier League champions Liverpool after a transfer saga that dominated the window.

The Sweden international is deeply unpopular among the Newcastle fanbase for informing the club of his desire to move on and missed their first three Premier League games of the season after being told to train alone.

From his side, Isak claimed he had been given assurances he would be allowed to leave at the end of last season after his goals helped the club secure a place in the Champions League.

It descended into a mess with neither Isak, nor Newcastle, emerging with any credit.

Botman on one side of reported rift

Reports suggested the situation had caused a rift in the dressing room with some players furious with Isak and others having sympathy for his predicament.

It would seem centre-half Botman falls into the latter category.

The Netherlands international wrote on Instagram this morning: “What started off as team-mates growed in one of my rare best friendships. No more words needed brother, all the best in your next chapter @alex_isak [sic].”

Botman was trending on X this morning with Newcastle fans venting their anger.
