Current All Elite Wrestling star MVP has spoken out about why he left WWE in August 2024 after his contract expired. It appears there was some backstage animosity that caused the wrestler and manager to want to leave as soon as his contract was up.
MVP Blames Management For Why He Didn’t Re-Sign With WWE
While speaking on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet Podcast, MVP spoke about how “people in management” were the reason for his departure. He said that he disliked a person “immensely” and talked Bobby Lashley into not re-signing either. Shelton Benjamin had already been released from the company by then. WWE released him in September 2023. He said:
“When it came time for our contracts, I made it very clear that I don’t want to be there anymore. There are people there in management that I dislike immensely, a person, and I wouldn’t even bother to get into that. But I just knew that with certain people in charge, and that’s how the wrestling game is, that’s how life is. I don’t care where you work. When management changes, some people are out, other people are in, and I knew it was time to go. I wasn’t gonna re-sign.I was in Bobby’s ear constantly like don’t re-sign. Shelton got released. Don’t re-sign. Let’s you, me, and Shelton get back together. Let’s go to AEW. I know we can go to AEW and we can pick this thing back up.” (h/t: WrestlePurists)
MVP was right about being able to pick up where things left off. He made his AEW debut in September 2024 at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. Not long after, Benjamin and Lashley followed him, and they created the Hurt Syndicate — The Hurt Business 2.0.
It’s no secret that MVP doesn’t exactly like WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque. In a past interview from May with BetIdeas.com, MVP explained why he has a beef with the CCO. From the sounds of it, it’s how Lashley was booked after Triple H took over. He said:
“Let’s just say this, Bobby Lashley was a two-time WWE Champion, and after he took over, Bobby Lashley was reduced to the mid-card. Bobby Lashley is a bankable, marketable guy. And two-time WWE Champion just got reduced to mid-card, whatever.” (h/t: WrestleZone)
He added:
“Okay, well just watch the program. Who were the people in the top spots under his leadership? Who were given the opportunities? And I’m not talking about NXT. I’m talking about the main show.”
So it appears that MVP is not in the group that believes that WWE has gotten better backstage since The Game took over. On that note, what happened to the forgotten fourth member of The Hurt Business, Cedric Alexander? Well, the former WWE Superstar is currently wrestling in TNA. MVP in the past has also said that he would like him to join them someday.
