The Los Angeles Rams are expected to start Matthew Stafford at quarterback for their season opener against the Houston Texans on Sunday.
The 37-year-old missed the first month of training camp with an aggravated disk in his back but is ready to play.
Coach Sean McVay also said left tackle Alaric Jackson, who is dealing with lower leg blood clots, should be fit to play.
“I do believe that we’ll be at our best with him out there,” McVay said.
Stafford is entering his 17th NFL season and has been with the Rams since 2021, winning Super Bowl LVI in 2022.
“Backs are sometimes interesting things,” Stafford said after his first full week of practice. “It’s not cut and dry what’s what and how you’re going to feel, so I really appreciate our team and our head coach and everybody taking a day-to-day approach with me doing everything they can to try and help me out.”
The Rams won the NFC West last year with a 10-7 record but lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs.
