Kapil Dev, India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain, will headline a Fireside Chat titled “Leadership & Life Beyond the Pitch” at PlayCom 2025: Business of Sports Summit, organised by The Hindu Group’s Sportstar in partnership with KPMG India at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on September 12 and 13.
Since retiring from cricket in 1994, Kapil has built a legacy that extends well beyond the game. His first major business was Dev Musco Lighting Pvt. Ltd, a joint venture set up in 1995 with American firm Musco Sports Lighting LLC. Now fully owned by him, the company has transformed stadium and field illumination across the country, reflecting his eye for opportunity and long-term impact.
Equally committed to nurturing other sports, Kapil took charge as president of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) last year, having joined its board in 2021. Among his contributions is the launch of the Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational at the DLF Golf and Country Club, one of the richest events on the domestic calendar. His passion for golf has also seen him feature in international pro-am tournaments such as the Dunhill Links, where he shared fairways with global celebrities.

Kapil will share insights on leadership, resilience and the lessons sport offers beyond the boundary. His session will look at how sporting values translate into life, business, and national culture — an apt theme at a conclave that brings together athletes, policymakers and industry leaders.
The two-day event will also see discussions on investment, innovation, governance and the growing influence of sport in India’s economy. Supported by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation, the Governments of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Odisha, and JK Tyre, PlayCom 2025 aims to frame the country’s sporting future on the global stage.
For Kapil, who remains an enduring symbol of Indian sporting transformation, the session promises to be both a reflection on his journey and a conversation on what lies ahead for Indian sport.
