Jon Jones: Tom Aspinall and I Are Awaiting UFC’s Official Fight Announcement

Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall Await UFC’s Official Fight Announcement

While Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall may have their differences, they share a mutual understanding to let the UFC handle any announcements regarding their potential heavyweight title unification bout.

Currently in Thailand filming a reality show, Jones hosted a seminar over the weekend where he addressed questions about the timeline for his much-anticipated fight with Aspinall. Jones has previously hinted that the UFC is aware of his future plans, which could explain the promotion’s silence on demands to strip him of his title.

It’s been just six months since Jones’ last fight, and it appears he’s been in discussions with the UFC about his return to the octagon.

“The UFC, Tom, and I have a lot going on behind the scenes,” Jones shared with seminar attendees. “As one of the biggest sports organizations, the UFC is handling things, and Tom and I have agreed to wait for their official announcements. Legally, I’m unable to discuss details at this time.”

Aspinall echoed a similar sentiment after recently teasing an announcement on social media—only to quickly shut down speculation by firmly stating that he doesn’t announce his own fights and leaves that responsibility to the UFC.

For weeks now, Jones and Aspinall have traded jabs through interviews and social media as tensions rise over the lack of clarity surrounding a possible matchup between them.

UFC CEO Dana White has repeatedly assured fans that the fight will happen, but Aspinall has voiced growing frustration as he nears a full year of inactivity—his last victory coming back in July 2024.

Jones’ latest comments still don’t offer any concrete answers, but they do suggest he’s at least in discussions with the UFC and acknowledges that the Aspinall fight is the one fans are eager to see.

Will it come together? Only time—and the UFC—will decide.
