At WWE Crown Jewel, John Cena made one of his final in-ring appearances in Perth, Australia against one of his greatest rivals, AJ Styles. The GOAT managed to overcome the Phenomenal One, but during the match, as he has done lately, Cena hit moves from some of his biggest rivals in a tribute those who most affected his career. Among them were the likes of Rusev, Randy Orton, and the Undertaker (he even nearly attempted Rey Mysterio’s 619 when the crowd called for it!), but most special was when he acknowledged Chris Jericho and the late great Bray Wyatt. Not to be outdone, AJ Styles put on a show that thanked past TNA legends.
John Cena Put AJ Styles in the Walls of Jericho
John Cena’s match against AJ Styles was filled with fan service to the past. That was noticeable right off the bat when AJ came out wearing his old TNA ring gear. Cena and Styles used not only their best moves, but those of some great competitors. AJ broke out some Sweet Chin Music, and also hit moves from his TNA rivals Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, Sting, and Frankie Kazarian, while John Cena went to the well of some of the biggest moves from his past feuds. Among them was an acknowledgment to one of his most underrated enemies, Chris Jericho, as Cena put his opponent in the Walls of Jericho.
John Cena and Chris Jericho battled many times during the 2000s and 2010s in a perfect battle between babyface and heel. Their best match happened at SummerSlam 2005 in one of the first instances of the crowd turning on the face of the company.
John Cena Paid Tribute To Bray Wyatt With A Sister Abigail
Later in the match, in the most touching moment of the night, John Cena paid tribute to the late, great Bray Wyatt with a sister Abigail. This not only got the crowd on their feet but saw the Perth audience breaking out the fireflies. John Cena was one of Bray Wyatt’s first and best rivals, and although many fans hated that the Eater of Worlds lost his feud to the leader of the Cenation, they made up for it in a wild, cinematic Firefly Funhouse match at WrestleMania 36.
At the end of the match, John Cena hit AJ Styles with the Undertaker’s tombstone piledriver before doing the AA for the pinfall. The Undertaker’s finisher may have brought things to a close, but it’s Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt who raised eyebrows and got us in the feels.
