Last weekend, WWE had its biggest premium live event of the summer — SummerSlam. There were some shocking events to say the least — Seth Rollins cashing in the MITB briefcase to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion and Brock Lesnar making a surprise return — but another one that stood out was Jelly Roll and Randy Orton losing their match against Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre. In an interview with Cody Rhodes for the “So What Do You Wanna Talk About?” podcast, Jelly Roll revealed that he was behind the match’s end.
Jelly Roll Wanted The Loss
The Grammy-nominated country singer told Chief Content Officer Triple H that he wanted to take a loss for two reasons: no celebrity has done it, and it would give him a reason to return to the company. Jelly Roll does make a good point. He said:
“I told Triple H I want to lose at SummerSlam. Just cause no celebrity ever took an ‘L’, they always put them over. And if you don’t put me over, I always have a reason, there’s always just something lingering there, I can pop up anytime.” (h/t: F4wonline)
As noted, past reports from WrestleVotes have said that Jelly Roll hopes for a long-term partnership and wants to return to WWE in early 2026.
Jelly Roll On His Training With NXT Stars
The same past reports from WrestleVotes also said that the “Need a Favor” singer was training for three hours and some of the people he trained with included The Undertaker and Kevin Owens. During the podcast, Jelly Roll told Cody about some of the NXT stars, including NXT Tag Team Champions Hank and Tank, who helped him ahead of his in-ring debut.
“A couple of NXT kids that I want to shout out that really deserve it. Tag team champs over there are called Hank and Tank. I can’t wait till they get called up. I am cheering for them to get called up. The day they get called up, I’m going to cancel the show to come show up for them. They’ve been that good to me. But even better to me is a kid named Mitch, they call him Stacks at NXT.”
It’ll be interesting to see what WWE will have in store for the singer in the future. Will he come back one day to tag again with Randy Orton and get revenge on both Paul and McIntyre, or maybe he will go to NXT? Well, it wouldn’t be his first time going to the developmental brand. Before SummerSlam, he made a surprise appearance.
