Jackson says the best is yet to come

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson says he ‘is just getting started’ going into the new NFL season.

Jackson, 28, has twice been named MVP in his NFL career but is yet to reach a Super Bowl.

Last season he threw for a career-best 41 touchdowns in the regular season and ran for four more. His rushing total of 915 yards was his best since the 2020 season and he feels he is back to his sharpest.

“I’m only 28. I’m really just getting started,” Jackson said.

“I feel how I did my rookie year, speed-wise and mobility-wise.

“Things are meant to happen. It’s not my time because if it was my time, we would’ve had seven Super Bowls in a row already.”

The Ravens were defeated by the Buffalo Bills 27-25 in last year’s playoffs, and the two sides meet in the final game on opening Sunday.

Tight end Mark Andrews is often on the end of Jackson’s plays and agrees that the QB is still getting better.

“Every year, he finds a new way to get better and better,” Andrews said.

“It’s almost like the game has just continually slowed down for him. And he’s already such a fast, dynamic player and his playmaking, the way he reads the game, he’s just getting more and more comfortable.

“I love the way that he’s just going about his business and continues to move that bar higher and higher, which is already incredible.”
