WWE SummerSlam is only a few weeks away, and the first two-night event in the PLE’s history is shaping up to be a big one. John Cena defending his Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes in a WrestleMania 41 rematch is certain to be the main event, but there is another title match that could steal the show. On the Raw side of things, Gunther will be defending his World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk. This could finally be Punk’s crowning moment since returning to WWE, but his biggest rival might ruin everything.
During last week’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, Seth Rollins suffered a serious knee injury that could keep him out for months. However, a new report says that Rollins’ injury isn’t all that bad, meaning he could come back much sooner than expected. Is WWE setting up for Rollins to cash in during Gunther and Punk at SummerSlam?

Seth Rollins’ Injury Isn’t As Serious As WWE Is Playing It
Rollins’ Hurt Knee At Saturday Night’s Main Event Was A Work
- Seth Rollins recently won the Money in the Bank briefcase.
- Rollins appeared to hurt his knee during a match against LA Knight.
- Reports state that his injury is a minor one.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, before Goldberg main evented against Gunther in a matchup that he wasn’t happy about, Seth Rollins took on LA Knight. Rollins, now a heel again, as he is aligned with Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed, is arguably the MVP of Raw. He’s also the man to watch as the Money in the Bank winner. But then came a real-life swerve, as Rollins appeared to hurt his knee, resulting in a rushed finish that saw Knight pick up the win and Rollins being helped out.
According to all reports, Seth Rollins is indeed injured, but new reports from both Post Wrestling and the Wrestling Observer say that Rollins wasn’t hurt at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Instead, according to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer:
“Rollins did have a very minor knee injury going into Saturday so the claim he was hurt is somewhat true, but was nothing that would keep him out of action much time at all.”
If true, this means that the injury angle on Saturday was a work. So, why pretend to make an injury worse than it is? It could be because WWE wants to fool fans into believing that Seth Rollins will be gone for much longer, setting up a huge surprise.

Gunther Defends His Title Against CM Punk At SummerSlam
Fans Want To See CM Punk Become A World Champion Again
- Rollins vs. Roman Reigns at SummerSlam had looked to be the plan.
- CM Punk won a gauntlet match on Raw to become the new number one contender.
- Rollins has said he’ll do everything to make sure that CM Punk is never a champion again.
The plan for SummerSlam looked to be Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns, with the OTC seeking to get revenge for WrestleMania, but with Rollins out, he and Jey Uso are setting their sights on Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. The Original Tribal Chief returned at the end of Raw, just moments after CM Punk won a gauntlet match that made him the number one contender for Gunther’s World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.
CM Punk vs. Gunther will certainly be a great match, and with both men’s mic skills, the next few weeks should deliver some memorable segments. Gunther is having a great second reign as the champion, but fans really want to see CM Punk get the glory, as he’s been back in WWE for nearly two years and hasn’t held any gold. But let’s not forget the words of Seth Rollins, who has said more than once that he will do anything to make sure that CM Punk never becomes a World Champion.

Will Seth Rollins Interfere In The World Title Match?
Tricking Fans With An Injury Angle Is Risky
- WWE will want us to forget that Seth Rollins is around.
- He could cash in his Money in the Bank contract at SummerSlam.
- Punk would need to defeat a World Champion Seth Rollins to finally hold gold.
If Seth Rollins is only dealing with a minor injury, imagine him taking the next few weeks to rest away from WWE TV. With Rollins forgotten, and the rest of his faction dealing with Roman Reigns and Jey Uso, the attention can stay on Gunther and CM Punk. Imagine it, Punk being on the cusp of victory at SummerSlam, only for Seth’s music to hit as he marches down to the ring, just like he did at WrestleMania 31. The crowd, not expecting to see him, would go wild, while a tired and battered Punk looks on confused.
This would allow Rollins to cash in his contract, turning the match into a triple threat, and with a curb stomp, reveal that his injury wasn’t so bad after all. Now, Seth Rollins is the World Heavyweight Champion once more and his feud with Punk gets even bigger. For CM Punk, the only way to finally become a champion himself would be to go directly through his mortal enemy.
There is a problem with this though. There have been several notable injuries of late to the likes of Liv Morgan, AEW’s Adam Cole, and more. While Rollins being injured isn’t exactly a lie, WWE creating an angle to make it look worse risks making light of those injuries that are more severe. It means WWE will spend weeks lying to reporters and fans, all for the sake of shock value. In the future, when we see a WWE star injured in the ring, will we believe what we see and what we’re told, or will we see someone genuinely hurt and scream “Work!”?
