IND vs ENG, 4th Test: Jasprit Bumrah goes off the field mid spell, raises injury concern


Jasprit Bumrah on Friday went off the field in the middle of a spell raising concerns of an injury during the third day of the fourth Test between India and England in Manchester.

The pace spearhead bowled one over with the second new ball, the 92nd of the innings, before getting replaced by Anshul Kamboj. Bumrah had bowled 19 overs and conceded 65 runs without picking a wicket till then.

He returned on the field after four overs and appeared to have discomfort in his left ankle. Videos from the stadium later revealed that Bumrah tripped on the staircase while walking down from the dressing room.

He bowled full tilt later in the day and picked the wicket of Jamie Smith.

The 31-year-old had missed the Champions Trophy due to an back injury which he sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Decemeber-January.

As a result, India head coach Gautam Gambhir said ahead of the series that Bumrah will feature in just three matches to keep his workload under check.

Bumrah played the first and the third Tests in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, picking 12 wickets in the four innings, which inclulded two five-wicket hauls.
