The 2025 Royal Rumble saw a big shocker as Jey Uso eliminated John Cena to win the match and get a title shot at WrestleMania 41. Although many fans were happy to see WWE do something different, others were upset because they see him as boring in the ring and on the mic. His critics look at Jey and see an effective catchphrase and entrance but little else. Jey Uso has heard those critics, but has he overcome them since becoming the World Heavyweight Champion and face of Raw?

Jey Uso Wants To Prove Himself To Fans
Back in March, weeks before WrestleMania 41, Jey Uso spoke to Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports/SHAK Wrestling, where he talked about the critics who doubted him. Uso said:
“No matter what I’m doing right now, I’m still trying to prove myself as a singles star, a singles competitor even though I’ve been by myself for maybe a year and a half. I’m still trying to prove myself man and it’s okay, it’s okay, this is my story.” (h/t Fightful)
This was a few weeks after he told the same interviewer:
“I feel like I am doubted a lot. A lot of people are doubting me right now, Uce. I’m not supposed to be in this position. I know that. They know that. But I’m going to shut them all up.”

Jey Uso continues to be criticized. Back in April, Kevin Nash wondered if the pressure was getting to him while making fun of his physique. And even now, although he’s the World Heavyweight Champion, some fans still bash him on social media.
Jey Uso arguably isn’t the greatest talker in wrestling, but despite his critics, he’s doing something right. You can see it with the kids who stand next to him in the arena with a big smile on their faces, and you can hear it from 10,000 fans yelling “YEET!” at the top of their lungs.
