Cody Rhodes has talked up a fellow WWE star who the company are “incredibly impressed with” and hinted that he’s headed for the main event scene.
The WWE Champion knows all about becoming a megastar in pro wrestling, transforming his character away from the promotion and returning to finally become a main event talent. He’s since headlined three WrestleMania PLEs, and his recent comments suggest that’s where a SmackDown brawler is headed.
Cody Rhodes on “Really Special” WWE Star
Rhodes sat down with American singer-songwriter Jelly Roll on the latest episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About? and discussed last weekend’s SummerSlam PLE. The duo praised Jacob Fatu but it was the American Nightmare’s glowing verdict of how he’s viewed within the company that has garnered interest:
“Jacob [Fatu] is really special. He feels like a little baby here and I want to make sure everything is right. He’s special. I know everyone here is incredibly impressed with Jacob, too. When something good happens for him, all of us are like, ‘Awesome.’”
The Samoan Werewolf lost to Solo Sikoa in a Steel Cage Match for the United States Championship at the biggest party of the summer last weekend. That was thanks to interference from Sikoa’s MFT group, but from a booking perspective, it’s clear there are bigger plans for Fatu.
The 35-year-old has been with the company for just over a year and has already become one of the biggest fan favourites. His growth has come naturally, and as a result, turned him babyface thanks to his incredible in-ring ability and athleticism, despite weighing 291 pounds.
WWE’s main event scene is stacked at the moment following SummerSlam, but Fatu continues to steamroll his way through the mid-card. He held the US title for 70 days, and perhaps next up is a world title reign.
Paul Heyman Agrees About Jacob Fatu’s Potential
Paul Heyman is one of the most important names in WWE today because he not only acts as an on-screen manager but also works as a behind-the-scenes advisor. The ECW legend worked with Fatu during the initial stages of The Bloodline 2.0 storyline.
The WWE Hall of Famer has seen up close just how promising a talent the Samoan heavyweight is. He predicts he’ll soon be headlining the Show of Shows (via The Ariel Helwani Show):
“Jacob Fatu, a guaranteed WrestleMania main eventer multiple times in the future.”
Fatu has been booked strongly since arriving in WWE and feels like the long-term answer for the company alongside Bron Breakker. He spoke exclusively to TheSportster about writing history as part of the Samoan dynasty that has become a staple of WWE in recent times.
