Haaland scores in 10th consecutive game to spare penalty blushes as Norway edge closer to World Cup qualification

Erling Haaland found the net for the 10th consecutive game for club and country after twice missing a penalty in Norway’s World Cup qualifier against Israel.

The Manchester City forward scored either side of a two own goals as Norway take a 3-0 lead into the break at a politically-charged affair at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo.

However, Haaland saw his third minute spot kick saved by Daniel Peretz before the prolific striker was given a second chance when it was deemed the visitors’ stopper had come off his line too early.

But Peretz was equal to the retake, diving to his left hand side to push away the 25-year-old’s effort.

The Norwegian would not be denied for long. After Anan Khalaili turned the ball into his own net in the 18th-minute, Haaland struck nine minutes later, slotting home Alexander Sorloth’s through ball with expert precision.

Norway extended their lead further just a 60 seconds later when Idan Nachmias scored a second own goal for Israel.

Haaland’s goal continues his impressive start to the season. Tottenham are the only team so far this term to have kept him from finding the net when Thomas Frank’s side secured a 2-0 victory over City back in August.

His electric form has helped move Norway to within touching distance of the 2026 World Cup finals.

Victory over Israel, coupled with an unlikely Estonia win over Italy later, would all but confirm Norway’s place at next summer’s showpiece event for the first time in 28 years.
