Several African nations are on the road to booking their spot in next summer’s World Cup.
We are already set to see Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia at the tournament, and a few others had the chance to book their ticket in the most recent round of qualifiers.
Mohamed Salah’s Egypt have already qualified, but would have wanted the win over Guinea-Bissau either way.
Read on to see how the best of the action unfolded on Sunday evening.
Kudus guides Ghana to World Cup
Ghana secured their World Cup 2026 qualification with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Comoros in Kumasi, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Mohammed Kudus early in the second half.
After a cagey opening 45 minutes in which neither side managed to find a breakthrough, the hosts came out with renewed purpose after the restart.
Just three minutes into the second half, Thomas Partey slipped a clever pass into Kudus, who took a touch before rifling a right-footed strike into the top of the net.
Comoros battled bravely and limited Ghana’s chances to extend their lead, but they rarely troubled the home defence, with the Black Stars comfortably seeing out the closing stages to secure all three points.
Egypt get the job done
Egypt edged past Guinea-Bissau with a 1-0 win in Cairo, with Mohamed Hamdy’s early header proving decisive in a tightly contested qualifier.
The Pharaohs made a strong start and took the lead after just 11 minutes when Ahmed Koka delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, met by Hamdy, who directed a firm header into the net.
That proved to be the game’s only strike, as Egypt failed to turn early dominance into a more comfortable scoreline.
Guinea-Bissau grew into the match but struggled to create clear chances against a disciplined Egyptian defence.
Both sides collected several bookings in a physical second half, while substitutions from Hossam Hassan’s bench aimed to preserve the slender lead.
