John Cena looks set to be embroiled in another rivalry with Brock Lesnar but fans want the 17-time world champion to face another WWE superstar at the upcoming Clash in Paris PLE.
The 48-year-old is back as a babyface and was attacked by Lesnar at the end of SummerSlam after losing the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes. The assumption is that he’ll come up against the Beast Incarnate at Paris La Defense Arena in Nanterre, France, but that’s not what some fans want.
Fans Want Dominik Mysterio vs John Cena at WWE Clash in Paris
The Clash in Paris PLE takes place on August 31, giving WWE a few weeks to build stories for the event. Cena is advertised for three upcoming SmackDown shows, including this Friday’s, while there’s no word of Lesnar’s schedule.
Cena turned babyface before SummerSlam and now has a new batch of heel opponents to battle against before he officially retires in December. One of those is the reigning Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio, who successfully defended his title against AJ Styles at the biggest party of the summer.
Fans realise that for Cena to become a grand slam champion before his Farewell Tour ends, he needs to win the Intercontinental Championship. One fan wrote:
“Hold on, I just realised John Cena only needs the Intercontinental Championship to become a grand slam champion.”
This was met by fans calling for the Greatest of All-Time to challenge Dirty Dom rather than fight Lesnar in the French capital. One responded:
“We need Dom vs Cena at Clash in Paris.”
Another replied:
“Cena v Dom clash in Paris book it.”
One fan fantasy booked the rest of Cena’s Farewell Tour:
“I would’ve gone: vs. Dom and AJ in a triple threat at Clash in Paris vs. Drew at Crown Jewel War Games at Survivor Series vs. Gunther in December for Cena’s last four matches personally.”
Cena has never faced Dominik on TV and became a part-timer when the Judgment Day member’s meteoric rise took place, and he became one of the company’s biggest heels. Many have yearned to see the pair enter a feud due to various factors, including their contrasting characters.
Does Dominik Mysterio Want To Face John Cena?
Dominik made his feelings clear on being one of the final opponents of Cena’s career by insisting he wouldn’t want that honor. He told talkSPORT earlier this year:
“I hope not. So I can take the same four moves he does? I hate John Cena. We don’t have to go through this again.”
Those comments came in character but the son of Rey Mysterio deep down may be interested in facing the legendary WWE star. He has an admirer in Cena who tipped him to eclipse his father and become the “most famous Mysterio in pro wrestling”.
For now, a potential match between the pair at Clash in Paris looks unlikely because Cena is dealing with Lesnar while Dirty Dom’s priorities lie with keeping hold of his Intercontinental Championship. He’s also gearing up for a four-way Mega Championship match at AAA Triplemanía XXXII.
