Ex-WWE Star Matt Riddle Responds to Allegedly Ripping Off Wrestling Charity Event

Former WWE star Matt Riddle has responded to allegations of no-showing a charity pro wrestling show that took place on Sunday (August 31). The 39-year-old has hit back at Global Wrestling Kingdom and suggested they are “lying” about the situation.

Cultaholic reported that Riddle no-showed Global Wrestling Kingdom’s A New Kingdom Rises event in Barnsley, England. He was supposed to face popular YouTuber Simon Miller, but he failed to travel to the UK and hasn’t returned the deposit paid by the promotion.

The event raised money for charities in support of survivors of domestic abuse and homeless veterans, but Riddle was nowhere to be seen. It’s the latest of a long list of controversies the former NXT North American Champion has been involved in during and after his time in WWE.

Former ICW World Heavyweight Champion Grado filled in for the American and instead faced Miller. The Scotsman told the source mentioned above that he had to take a five-hour drive to the event after a last-minute phone call was made:

“I was a wee bit worried the fans would be upset at me being the replacement as we are completely different wrestlers in more than one way. However, the reaction was incredible and the lads and lassies in the back absolutely burst their arses to give the fans a cracking show. Shout out to Simon Miller for being a tremendous pro also!”

Riddle has responded to the allegations with a post on Instagram. He argued that he had a flight booked earlier than the event’s scheduled date, which messed with his work schedule:

“GWK, the reason I didn’t go is because you booked me a flight for Thursday for a show that was on Sunday and you said you were booking me meets and greets and other matches and appearances. You did none of that, I had nothing scheduled. I was gonna sit in a hotel room for two days in London.

He added:

“I told you multiple times I can’t do that or wouldn’t do that and I got work, for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I told you I would fly to London Saturday evening, you said ‘you pay for it’, I go ‘no you pay for it, take it out of my pay’, you guys refused. So I flew to Miami and wrestled there.”

Riddle has hit back at GWK by claiming that they have lied:

“I never said I wouldn’t pay you guys back, that’s a lie, also this show wasn’t a charity event, that’s a lie. That’s a last second change. You also booked me the worst flight in history. GWK, this is probably your last run.”
