Everything We Loved From SmackDown

WWE headed to the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts for the August 15 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, as the blue brand continues to build towards WWE’s trip to France in the very near future for Clash in Paris. Big feuds continued, new contenders emerged, and seeds were planted in other stories, giving fans plenty of things to love and talk about across the show.

SmackDown featured a brand new name announcing his move to SmackDown, new challengers making their claim in several divisions, teases of a push for a young star, and a brilliant promo in the men’s world title picture.

Sami Zayn Wants The United States Championship

  • Zayn confronted Sikoa on SmackDown.
  • He announced that he has moved over from Raw.
  • He has a new target – the United States Title, which he has never won before.

The United States Championship picture has felt a little stale here and there over the last few months, but after his win last week, Sami Zayn has moved to SmackDown and has his eyes set on the United States Title, adding some star power to the division. Although Sami Zayn getting involved in some “Bloodline” business may be a little overdone, a move to the blue brand is something fresh for him.

Zayn can help to bring the best out of Solo Sikoa in the ring, and it will either result in Sikoa getting another big victory to add momentum to his heel push, or else it will give Zayn a title that he’s never won before.

Carmelo Hayes Is In Line For A Push

  • WWE teased the breakup between The Miz and Carmelo Hayes.
  • Hayes wants a singles title in WWE.
  • It is about time that Hayes got another push.

Carmelo Hayes has been stuck for a long time on SmackDown, but the wheels are potentially turning for something new for the young star. On SmackDown this week, the next step in the breakdown of his tag team with The Miz continued in two stages. Firstly, after a very fun tag team match against Fraxiom, The Miz entered the match late on to steal the pinfall, taking Melo’s spotlight.

Later on in the night, Melo approached SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis to try and get a shot at the United States Championship, until The Miz arrived to halt him in his tracks, keeping him locked in to their team. A tag team match was set up for next week against Motor City Machine Guns, but most importantly, this episode of SmackDown suggested that very soon Hayes and The Miz will feud, with Hayes potentially getting a singles push as a babyface.

Chelsea Green Leads An Assault On Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss

  • Alexa Bliss defeated Piper Niven.
  • Green, Niven, and Fyre stood tall after the bell.
  • It is about time Green and the Secret Hervice gained some momentum.

On SmackDown, Alexa Bliss took on Piper Niven in singles action in a match that was full of ringside shenanigans involving Chelsea Green, Alba Fyre, and Charlotte Flair. Bliss scored the victory, and a brawl broke out after the bell.

Despite often being presented as a weak and comedic faction, Chelsea Green and her Secret Hervice led a successful numbers game attack on Bliss and Flair, standing tall and putting themselves in contention for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. It was nice to see the group presented at a more serious level on this show.

Drew McIntyre WWE SmackDown August 2025
Drew McIntyre promo on SmackDown

  • McIntyre explained his actions from last week when he attacked Rhodes.
  • McIntyre is after the WWE Championship.
  • This was arguably the best part of SmackDown this week.

No one can deliver a heelish promo like Drew McIntyre in WWE. He emerged on SmackDown to justify his attack on Cody Rhodes last week, and he did so masterfully. He explained that Rhodes first attacked him after the bell, so anything McIntyre did in the aftermath was “self-defense” – and in truth, he wasn’t wrong!

He also discussed Cody Rhodes being WWE’s number one guy and WWE Champion, comparing himself five years ago to what Rhodes is today, but explained that he’d evolved away from that. This was a fantastic speech to kick off their rivalry with one another, and is no doubt the best developing story on the SmackDown brand right now.
