Chris Woakes came out to bat with his left arm in a sling during the fifth day of the fifth Test between England and India at The Oval in London on Monday.
Woakes had injured his left shoulder while fielding on the opening day of the match, following which the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said the all-rounder would take no further part in the match.
However, with England losing nine wickets in the second innings with 17 runs still needed to win, Woakes exhibited examplary courage when he walked out to bat on the final morning of the match.
Though he didn’t face a single ball during his 16-minute stay in the middle, he ran a couple of crucial singles that helped keep Gus Atkinson on strike.
However, England lost the contest by six runs, allowing India to draw the five-match series 2-2.
