Chris Jericho’s last appearance in WWE came back in 2018 when he competed in the Greatest Royal Rumble. He then became the biggest name to sign for AEW when he joined Tony Khan’s promotion at the very start of its creation in January 2019.

The former AEW World Champion is in his sixth year with the company, but could soon become a free agent when his contract expires. There is already speculation over a return to WWE, potentially at the Royal Rumble in January 2026.

Jericho opened up on the rumors regarding his future and took the time to celebrate that two “great teams” are options for talent: (via The Daily Mail; Denise Salcedo): “The best thing that can happen in wrestling is AEW, and the fact that there’s two huge promotions that you can choose from just makes it better for the guys, it makes it better for the fans and everybody in between, so I’m not going anywhere for a while.

But Jericho’s comments directly on his AEW status are only going to stir up more talk of him exiting: “I’m still with AEW for now. Would I go back to WWE? I wouldn’t be opposed to it, we just have to see what happens, but the best thing that can happen is you have two great teams that you can play for, and that just makes everything bigger and more exciting.”

Jericho hasn’t appeared on AEW TV since April as he’s been busy with non-wrestling ventures such as touring with his band Fozzy. AEW CEO Tony Khan commented on the situation last week and insisted he’d “welcome” Jericho back.

One of the most entertaining aspects of Chris Jericho’s run in AEW has been his theme song, which has become one of the most popular in pro wrestling history. Every time Jericho makes his entrance to his band’s track ‘Judas’, fans in attendance sing along even when the music finishes.

It’s a special part of Jericho’s presentation in AEW, and many wonder whether he’d bring it to WWE or revert to his iconic ‘Break the Walls Down’ theme. He spoke to Busted Open Radio back in 2022 about the song and suggested it was a theme that belonged to AEW Jericho: “I think it’s one of the very special moments that’s synonymous with AEW that nobody else has in any wrestling company. Nowhere is a song that everybody sings the moment that we come out, I come out. The difference is, even if they did sing other people’s songs, this is my song. It’s my song. So I have thought about retiring it a few times. I might retire it.”

WWE could quite easily use the song, given that it is Jericho’s, so there wouldn’t be much of an issue regarding the rights to the track. Triple H and his creative team may feel it necessary to have a returning Y2J use the entrance theme because of its sing-along success.

Jericho’s comments came before WWE recently saw a surge in fans singing superstars’ theme songs, such as Cody Rhodes’ ‘Kingdom’ and Randy Orton’s ‘Voices’. What fans will undoubtedly be praying for is that Def Rebel aren’t handed production duties.
