David Brooks had a first-half goal disallowed as Bournemouth moved third in the Premier League and stayed unbeaten at home in this season’s top with a point against a Newcastle side who failed to score for the third time this season.
Visiting goalkeeper Nick Pope kept the scores level with an alert late save to turn Justin Kluivert’s free-kick from the edge of the box away.

Midfielder Brooks fired in from Evanilson’s pass in the 15th minute but the goal was ruled out following a Video Assistant Referee check, and Newcastle signing Nick Woltemade – making his second league appearance since arriving from Stuttgart for £65 million – was incensed when the forward was denied a penalty for a theatrical-looking tumble in the 52nd minute.

Bournemouth vs Newcastle: Magpies draw blank again
Against opponents who had won at home to Wolves and Brighton & Hove Albion and beaten Tottenham away in their previous three league games, Newcastle have cause to be satisfied with a result that leaves Eddie Howe’s side 13th in the table.
With Yoane Wissa expected to be out until late October with a knee injury sustained while playing for DR Congo, Howe will see Woltemade as the key candidate to help the Magpies improve on their record of failing to score in three of their first five league matches.
Newcastle had more of the second-half momentum but finished on an expected goals tally of 0.14 to Bournemouth’s 0.56, sending in one attempt on target.
Bournemouth failed to score at home in the league for the first time since February but were unfortunate that Brooks had fractionally strayed and are now on a four-game unbeaten run in the division since their opening 4-2 defeat at leaders Liverpool.
