Algeria became the 20th team to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Somalia on Thursday.
Two goals from Mohamed Amoura and one for Riyad Mahrez ensured a comfortable win for Vladimir Petkovic’s side, one which saw them clinch CAF qualifying Group G and a first appearance at the finals since they reached the last 16 in 2014.
Uganda are four points behind Algeria in the group, and they boosted their hopes of a play-off spot with a 1-0 away win over Botswana.
Mozambique’s hopes of catching Uganda for second place in that group are all but over after they lost 2-1 at home to Guinea. The result leaves Mozambique three points adrift of Uganda but with a vastly inferior goal difference.
Liberia are also still in the hunt for a play-off berth in Group H after a 3-1 win over Namibia. The victory moved Liberia one point behind Namibia with one game to play.
