AI Reveals The Storyline that WWE Could Have Done Better

WWE have put forth many storylines over the years that didn’t quite turn out as many fans expected or would have ideally liked. But which is the one that AI selected as the storyline above all that WWE should have done better? We asked ChatGPT to discuss a storyline, explain why it could have been better, and also to provide an alternative route for that narrative. Of course, anything AI-related must be taken with a grain of salt and not 100% accurate all the time, though the storyline selected is certainly one that represents the phrase “what if?” absolutely perfectly.

The Nexus Storyline Was Failed By WWE Creative

  • The Nexus was one of WWE’s biggest missed opportunities
  • Cena’s win at SummerSlam killed the group
  • Wade Barrett went from potential main eventer to dwindling in the midcard

In 2010, Wade Barrett led the contestants of NXT season one on a vicious hostile takeover during Monday Night RAW, taking out John Cena in an angle that actually saw Daniel Bryan briefly fired from the company altogether. Having a group of debuting names of mostly unknowns was one of the boldest WWE booking decisions seen in some time, and the faction carried a genuine air of danger and credibility about them. They were unforgiving, moved only in numbers, and were led by someone with natural charisma and talent – Wade Barrett. Many believed Barrett would become a main eventer and world champion, with The Nexus existing as a future legendary faction… and then things all went wrong.

AI Predicts Royal Rumble 2026 Winners

The 2026 Royal Rumble in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is still six months away, but who does AI think will win a chance to main event WrestleMania?

In peak “Super Cena” era, John Cena rallied against The Nexus, putting together “Team WWE” to eventually battle the group at SummerSlam 2010. This elimination-style tag team match was a lot of fun… until Cena won the match from a 2-on-1 disadvantage. From there, things continued to go downhill, as Cena picked apart the group, made them all look like chumps, and even when he was forced to be a member, he sought to make their lives a misery. By the time 2010 ended, Barrett was no longer the leader of The Nexus and the faction was a shell of its former self. AI picking this story in particular makes a lot of sense, now let’s see how it should have been booked.

AI Thinks Nexus Winning At SummerSlam Would Have Changed Everything

John Cena submitting Wade Barrett at SummerSlam 2010.

  • The Nexus wins at SummerSlam, changing everything
  • Wade Barrett becomes WWE Champion, as The Nexus dominates
  • Daniel Bryan is pushed as WWE’s next big underdog

AI would’ve had The Nexus debut as they did, causing chaos across WWE’s weekly events by attacking authority figures, referees, production crew and wrestlers – though despite WWE being in the PG Era, AI would’ve had The Nexus even attack fans – we hope this means plants in the audience and not real members of the crowd, however. This would have all led up to SummerSlam where The Nexus won, clean or dirty, taking out Cena and injuring him.

AI Makes 3 Bold WWE Predictions

WWE has been unpredictable lately in both good and bad ways, so we asked AI to figure out what big moves they might make next.

From that point on, AI has booked The Nexus to completely dominate RAW for months – Barrett as the WWE Champion, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater as Tag Team Champions, and David Otunga as United States Champion. During Cena’s absence, plucky underdog Daniel Bryan is the one selected as the man to rise up against his former allies as the top babyface in the storyline, bringing about his main event push over a year in advance. During this time, AI would’ve had each Nexus member develop more personality. Though the suggestions are certainly strange; Darren Young as a crazed wild card and Skip Sheffield (Ryback) as a tech genius. We aren’t sure that would have worked, although if you’ve seen Ryback’s TikTok Live Battles, maybe this isn’t far-fetched.

AI Would Have The Nexus Lose Eventually At WrestleMania 27

Wade-Barrett-Nexus

  • AI booked John Cena to beat Wade Barrett
  • In this world, Barrett has proved himself as a world champion
  • The Nexus would be a much bigger part of WWE’s legacy had it played out like this

In the end, the good guys prevail, but in AI’s world, this comes after a much longer period of dominance from The Nexus. John Cena would return at the Royal Rumble, eventually enlisting the help of higher-tier WWE stars such as Triple H, Edge and The Undertaker in a “Legends Alliance”, adding credibility to The Nexus due to the top names needing to come together. Cena wins the Rumble and dethrones Barrett for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 27. On paper, some might groan at this decision, but in this scenario, Barrett already has a world title reign under his belt and The Nexus’ legacy is way more defined.

During the Undertaker’s stint in WCW, he had to share a hotel room with an all-time legend, but it didn’t go well.

Going forwards, Bryan is a bigger star, Barrett remains in the main event scene, Cena gets his big babyface win, and everyone is way better off than the reality of the situation in which Barrett became a failed midcarder turned commentator, and The Nexus ceased to exist in any capacity by mid-2011.
