Afghanistan squad for Asia Cup 2025 — Rashid Khan named captain; Omarzai, Gurbaz included


Afghanistan on Sunday announced its squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28.

The team will be led by spinner Rashid Khan, while white-ball stars such as Azmatullah Omarzai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Mohammad Nabi, who helped the Afghans to qualify for T20 World Cup knockouts last year, were also named in the squad.

Afghanistan is drawn with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Hong Kong in Group B in the Asia Cup but will play host UAE, and Pakistan in a T20I Tri-Nation Series before the tournament.

Rashid Khan (C), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Darwish Rasooli, Sediqullah Atal, Azmatullah Omarzai, Karim Janat, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Mohammad Ishaq, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Allah Ghazanfar, Noor Ahmad, Farid Malik, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi.
