Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz bagged a hat-trick against Afghanistan during their UAE Tri-Series 2025 final on Sunday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The tweaker claimed the wickets of Darwish Abdul Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Ibrahim Zadran to take three wickets in a row.
Nawaz became the third Pakistan player to take a hat-trick in T20Is after Faheem Ashraf (2017 vs Sri Lanka) and Mohammad Hasnain (2019 vs Sri Lanka).
Nawaz first removed Rasooli and Omarzai for ducks off consecutive deliveries in the sixth over — the spinner’s first in the match. He then sent Zadran back to the hut on the first ball of his second over after the batter was stumped for nine.
In the same over, Nawaz picked his fourth scalp of the match by trapping Karim Janat lbw for nought.
Up until the end of his second over, Nawaz had just conceded a solitary run.
Earlier, Pakistan set a target of 142 thanks to crucial contributions from Fakhar Zaman (27), skipper Salman Ali Agha (24), and Nawaz (25) himself.
