Mercedes Mone & Bayley Banter On Instagram Live
On Friday, the two friends, in honor of the tenth anniversary of their match from the 2015 NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, got together on Instagram Live. While speaking, Mone brought up her title match tonight at RevPro against Emersyn Jayne. It’s a title vs. title match. Mone will put up the RevPro Women’s Title against Jayne’s Discovery Wrestling Scottish Women’s Championship.
If she wins, it will be her ninth title, which Bayley told her she wished she had just one. That comment led the AEW TBS Champion to challenge her to one more match with one of her titles on the line and give the “people what they want.” Below is the transcription of their conversation (h/t: Fightful).
Mone: “I’m going for title number nine tonight.”
Bayley: “I just want one.”
Mone: “You just want one?”
Bayley: “I just want one, dude.”
Mone: “Come face me then, dude. Give the people what they want, one more match.”
Mone: “So, what do you think about one more match?”
Bayley: “It depends what title is on the line. We’ll see.”
Mone: “I have a lot.”
Bayley: “How long would it be in? Ten years or five years or three years or one year?”
Mone: “Ten years seems a little too long, I can’t imagine not wrestling you for ten years.”
Bayley: “Mama’s getting old.”
Mone: “If I wrestled you when you were 50, I think I’d love that. It wouldn’t even be a match, it’d just be a haha.
The last time the two were in the ring together was when Mone went by the Sasha Banks ring name. The match was on the February 19, 2021, episode of Friday Night SmackDown. In the match, Bianca Belair, former WWE star Reginald, and Banks defeated Bayley, Nia Jax, and former WWE star Shayna Baszler.
A Quick Look Back At Mone’s WWE Career With Bayley
During Mone’s time in WWE, Bayley and she were the greatest of enemies and the best of friends. The two actually held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles twice and were known as The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection.
The match that the two were discussing at the 2015 NXT TakeOver is considered one of the best matches in WWE Women’s History and is also cited by many to be the match that helped start the Women’s Revolution. The influential match, which was an Iron Woman, saw Bayley defeat Mone for the NXT Women’s Title. Mone left WWE in May 2022 after walking out of the company before she and Naomi were supposed to be in the main event on WWE RAW.
So Mone isn’t wrong. Give the people what they want, and that’s to see the two titans go against each other in the ring just one more time.
